Why Polyaspartic Concrete Coatings Are a Good Choice for Quick Turnaround Times

At some point, you will need to complete an installation or resurfacing within a short timeframe. Business owners may want to minimize the amount of time their store is closed or homeowners may simply want the convenience of a quick turnaround. When you need to coat a concrete surface and have the project done quickly, polyaspartic concrete coatings are the answer, as they can cure to their full strength in just a half hour.

What Are Polyaspartic Coatings?

Polyaspartic concrete coatings are made of polyaspartic, a form of polyurea. This means that it is a two-part system in which you mix resin with a catalyst, hardening the material through curing. Polyurea was previously used to create corrosion-resistant coatings but was hard to apply because the pot life is only three seconds. Polyaspartics keep the advantages of polyurea while overcoming many challenges, such as the short pot life. These coatings can cure in between 5 and 120 minutes based on the exact formula. They have a pot life of between 5 and 120 minutes as well, so you don’t have to rush during the application process.

Benefits of Polyaspartic Coatings

Perhaps the most common reason contractors recommend polyaspartic concrete coatings is if a quick turnaround is necessary. You can select a formula that will cure in as little as 5 minutes so your clients are able to start using their space again in a short period. Additionally, these coatings are UV stable, meaning they won’t ever turn yellow and can protect the underlying concrete from UV rays. In terms of versatility, polyaspartic coatings work nearly everywhere, as you can apply them to any temperatures between -30 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Once cured, the coating will handle temperatures of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The coating is even able to bridge cracks of a small size due to its flexibility, saving you the hassle of minor repairs before application.
