Why Concrete Resurfacing Makes Sense for Your Pool Deck

Pool deck overlays, including repair or concrete resurfacing, allow you to completely transform your deck with beautiful designs as well as custom colors. To make your pool deck the focal point of your backyard, you can use these overlay products to create high performance, slip resistant decks. Systems can be designed to resist damage from pool chemicals, UV rays, and temperature extremes.

Resurfacing can involve laying new concrete, coating existing concrete, sealing your current concrete, and adding customized themes and colors. Concrete pavers are a popular resurfacing material – these are thin pavers that remodel your deck according to your aesthetic requirements. These pavers are placed on top of existing concrete. Design choices are varied, and these pavers are known for lasting a long time.

You don’t need to fully remodel. Just resurface the pool deck to create your specific look - at a fraction of the cost of remodeling. Pool decks are exposed to weather year-round and age a lot faster than the pool.

Stamped concrete is a completely new layer. Stamped concrete is also known as imprinted or patterned. It is cast in placed, and then colored to resemble cobblestone, stone, or even tile or slate. This can replicate the texture of pavers and create multiple design patterns. If you have cracks in your concrete (thicker than credit card size), stamped concrete is the option for you.

If your deck has signs of cracks, it’s time to resurface. Cracks provide a safety hazard – someone can trip on them. If your deck is too smooth, this creates a separate issue – slipping and falling. The right resurfacing texture will protect your family.

Resurfacing products are usually applied by trowel to a concrete foundation, or they are sprayed on. Concrete can be transformed into a beautiful stone appearance – using stains and stencils. Concrete is limestone-based and will last forever if properly resurfaced.

Concrete overlays are very economical – they go over the existing foundation. No concrete removal or excavation is involved. The durability of overlays is approximately twice the strength of the concrete. If the former mixture withstood 2,500 psi (pounds per square inch), when it is modified by an acrylic polymer additive it will double the strength to 5,000 psi.

Decorative concrete designs for concrete are a new trend – the concrete on your deck can be enhanced by stamping, stenciling and staining. When stenciling, the surface is either masked or exposed – coloring and etching will provide a variety of patterns and finishes. Sea shell patterns and a dozen others will create unique effects. Stains, a type of a penetrating coating, will produce marbling and other effects.

Colored concrete can match any setting. With permanent and non-fading hues, you can achieve a streak-free and lasting mix – with integral colors that remain in place. Integrally colored concrete is easily maintained and has a very long lifespan.

If you want a major impact on your home’s appearance by taking advantage of concrete’s color, pattern and shape abilities, then decorative concrete can produce a stunning appearance and add an expansive and striking element to your backyard pool deck.
