Concrete Floor Polishing: A Green and Healthy Choice

These days, many of us are seeking out greener alternatives which are ultimately better for the environment. When it comes to your home, there are quite a few excellent green options to choose from. Maybe you have considered plugging up any leaks in order to avoid wasted heat, or perhaps you have insulated your home to achieve energy efficient levels of comfort. One excellent option you have when it comes to green alternatives involves your flooring.

You can choose to go with a polished concrete instead of using carpeting. According to homeowner Randy Flamm, this is a great option. It is a fantastic way to avoid having to install a floor covering. Polished concrete, or concrete floor polishing, is excellent for the health conscious as well. Polished concrete reduces the amount of allergen problems that can be experienced with a carpeted home.

Randy Flamm believes that polished concrete flooring looks really cool. However, during his time having it installed, an issue arose involving his floor slabs. When the floor slabs were first poured, they didn’t turn out looking as cool as Randy Flamm had expected. According to Randy Flamm, the general contractor had used a red rosin paper and masking tape to protect the new concrete floor. The tape left dark stripes on the floor as it cured. The stripes were really deep. Randy Flamm was asked to regrind the floor after another polisher had spent a month polishing with a smaller machine.

Randy Flamm asked for the help of Jeff Wolcott of Wolcott Concrete to assist him with salvaging the floors. His solution was to regrind the floor down to the aggregate to remove as many of the stripe marks as possible and to distract the eye.

Concrete floor polishing is an excellent green alternative for your home which is additionally very appropriate for anyone with health concerns, particularly allergens. For a green and healthy home remodeling option, choose concrete floor polishing.
